WINGS OF FREEDOM is a piece filled with symbolism. The eagle represents this great nation, the United States of America.

The world globe over which the eagle is beginning flight is cloaked in a ribbon banner upon which the title Wings of Freedom is forever etched; representing freedom as the very fabric of the United States of America. The talons of the eagle carry the remaining banner fabric around the back side of the globe representing the USA as the entity which seeks to bind the wounds of the world and bring freedom. The pillars of books which cradle the globe represent knowledge: of Law, Honor and Humor, resting totally in balance upon the open book, The Book of Wisdom. The title, Wings of Freedom, has greater significance than just the wings of the bird; it also mirrors the promise of The Book of Wisdom: "...they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." Isaiah 40:31.

As the United States of America has believed and acted upon this promise, blessing has followed. As the USA continues to so believe, will blessing continue. If the world will seek for freedom, the Promise will come.

As I work in clay on a sculptural piece, with wonderful music on the CD player, my studio begins to turn into a sanctuary. The joy of creating overtakes every other emotion, time seems to stop, and the Lord's directive presence becomes most evident. I can only imagine the joy Jesus has in His creation that lives and breathes, sings and dances, paints and sculpts, writes music and poetry, raises children, loves the wife, loves the husband, pats the dog, hugs the cat, brings home the bacon, and stays the course. Creativity is not limited to the arts, it comes in street clothes. God is the direct author of all that has been achieved on this planet, in space, in the arts, in science and medicine, in technology; and continues to be creatively involved in every aspect of His creation. Thanks be to God for allowing us to "borrow" His talent; and to have so much fun doing so!
