"TAKING STALK"

Showing a male cougar coming off a rock ledge with his eyes fixed on target. Taking Stalk has been my most awarded bronze winning Best of Show in Grass Valley, CA show and three prestigious awards in New York City at the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Exhibit, The Pen & Brush Sculpture Exhibit, and The American Artists Professional League Exhibit as well as Steamboat Springs, CO; and was the only bronze selected for the Biological Art & Illustration Show at the Oakland Museum show in Oakland, CA in 1997. The inspiration for this piece came from having the opportunity to observe the growing up of an orphaned cougar kitten in the custody and care of a wildlife biologist with the Colorado Division of Wildlife. To be able to gaze close up into hypnotic cougar eyes and actually handle the paws and sink my fingers into the surprisingly coarse fur was an awesome privilege. The cougar is done with golden, transparent patinas and the rock ledge has colors of browns, reds and greens. A life-size version of this piece can be available.

Sculpture of Animals and People by Dawn Weimer

As I work in clay on a sculptural piece, with wonderful music on the CD player, my studio begins to turn into a sanctuary. The joy of creating overtakes every other emotion, time seems to stop, and the Lord's directive presence becomes most evident. I can only imagine the joy Jesus has in His creation that lives and breathes, sings and dances, paints and sculpts, writes music and poetry, raises children, loves the wife, loves the husband, pats the dog, hugs the cat, brings home the bacon, and stays the course. Creativity is not limited to the arts, it comes in street clothes. God is the direct author of all that has been achieved on this planet, in space, in the arts, in science and medicine, in technology; and continues to be creatively involved in every aspect of His creation. Thanks be to God for allowing us to "borrow" His talent; and to have so much fun doing so!
