Living in Colorado gives me wonderful opportunities to study Big Horn Sheep up close and personal. A friend with the Colorado Division of Wildlife told me where they were "baiting" the sheep with apple mash to enable the Division to drop a net over them so they could examine them for any possible health problems. The sheep get somewhat "snockered" on apple mash and really don't care that you get up fairly close allowing me to get some great pictures for reference material. They have their own kind of beauty; a majestic dignity that demands attention and respect. In sculpting this piece I wanted to convey this ram having victoriously reached the pinnacle and with pride of ownership now overlooks his domain. Ram Proud was a First Place award winner at the 101 year old, well respected Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club Show in New York City.

Sculpture of Animals and People by Dawn Weimer

As I work in clay on a sculptural piece, with wonderful music on the CD player, my studio begins to turn into a sanctuary. The joy of creating overtakes every other emotion, time seems to stop, and the Lord's directive presence becomes most evident. I can only imagine the joy Jesus has in His creation that lives and breathes, sings and dances, paints and sculpts, writes music and poetry, raises children, loves the wife, loves the husband, pats the dog, hugs the cat, brings home the bacon, and stays the course. Creativity is not limited to the arts, it comes in street clothes. God is the direct author of all that has been achieved on this planet, in space, in the arts, in science and medicine, in technology; and continues to be creatively involved in every aspect of His creation. Thanks be to God for allowing us to "borrow" His talent; and to have so much fun doing so!
